The Wanderer:

The Last American Slave Ship

TVHS is excited to partner with the Stony Brook Yacht Club for our June program: Tea with a Spot of History.

Join historian Bev Tyler as he presents his decades long research for “The History of The American Slave Ship Wanderer and Her Enslaved People”

A half-century after Congress banned the slave trade, a converted racing yacht that was built in East Setauket defied American law.

In 1858, The Wanderer made what is known to be the last documented voyage of an American slave ship. This is the story of one infamous schooner, the people who were involved with her for good or ill, and the enslaved people who suffered death as a result.

Please join us for a mid-afternoon tea party with scones and a spot of history!

Tuesday, June 18th at 1 pm

Doors open 12:45

Tickets $20 / Members $15
