Janette Ann Handley
December 7, 1939 – September 10, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our dear friend, Janette Ann Handley, on September 10, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Brisbane, Australia, Janette made the Three Village community her home for more than five decades, and in that time, she touched countless lives with her generosity, kindness, and spirit of service.
Janette gave her heart to the Three Village Historical Society + Museum for over 40 years. Beginning with the Candlelight House Tour and later became a trustee in 1991. She chaired committees, helped coordinate the Awards Dinner, Spirits Tour, Apple Festival, Culper Spy Day, Candlelight House Tour, Yard Sale, Annual Pot Luck Dinner, and even co-chaired the Culper Spy 5K with her grandson. She was also the meticulous note taker and keeper of our institutional memory, someone we all turned to. Janette was not just a volunteer; she was a pillar of TVHS, a mentor to many, and a dear friend to us all.
Beyond TVHS, Janette poured herself into her community: co-founding the soup kitchen at St. James Parish, supporting the Chamber of Commerce and Good Shepherd Hospice, and giving her time whenever and wherever she was needed. She had a huge heart and always showed up, with kindness, wisdom, and love.
Janette was beloved, and she will be deeply missed. Her legacy lives on in the history she helped preserve, the community she helped strengthen, and the countless people lucky enough to have known her.
