Visitor Services Associate

The Three Village Historical Society is seeking a part-time Visitor Services Associate starting in mid-late October.

 

Overview:

The Visitor Services Associate provides consistently welcoming, high-quality customer service, assisting guests with Museum admission, event tickets, membership, and gift shop purchases as well as guiding their in-person Museum visit through our two exhibits "Spies! How A Group of  Long Island Patriots Helped George Washington Win the Revolution" and "Chicken Hill: A Community Lost to Time".

 

Hourly schedule ranges from 6-10 hours per week - primarily weekday and special event evening shifts.

 

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Passion for the Museum’s mission and for local history.

  • Ability to perform reception duties in a welcoming manner.

  • Maintains a positive, professional, guest-centric attitude while handling multiple tasks.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office 365 programs and Point of Sale system.

  • Dependability and organizational skills required.

  • Flexibility to work day time, evenings, weekends, special events and holidays.

 

Pay:

This part-time non-exempt position will pay an hourly wage of $15/hr.

Historical Research Assistant

The Three Village Historical Society is seeking a part-time Historical Research Assistant starting in mid-late October.

 

Overview:

The Historical Research Assistant will provide guidance to requests from the public and TVHS membership in locating primary source documentation as well as conduct individual research on their behalf.  The hourly schedule ranges from 6-10 hours per week in the Three Village Historical Society Archives housed at the Emma S. Clark Memorial Library.

 

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services

  • Approve and accept gifts and donations to the TVHS Archives

  • Maintain hardware, software, and website related TVHS Archives network operations

  • Maintain an organized archive of work for future reference, which includes archival material such as letters and photographs

  • Assist with other department activities as needed

  • Assist historian researchers with their inquiries

  • Maintain the TVHS Archives appearance and acquisitions

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Possess excellent online research skills to locate primary source documents

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Proven ability to collaborate with team members and meet deadlines

  • Capable of working with a variety of individuals with various levels of knowledge of historical records

  • Experience in public history and/or public engagement

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Experience using Microsoft Office & Past Perfect Museum Software

 

Pay:

This part-time non-exempt position will pay an hourly wage of $15/hr.
